Natural Gas

The recontracting of several natural gas fired plants in Ontario is a great example of balancing commercial and technical factors. Joe initiated and led this effort which resulted in the plants being better integrated into grid operations, lower ratepayer costs, better financial performance for the plant owners, and lower emissions. Role: Asset Management.

AES was a great place to work during its heyday and developing gas-fired power plants in New England displaced out-of-date coal and oil-fired generation. Joe led the power plant design and construction for a 720 MW plant in New Hampshire. Role: Project Development.

Joe had the privilege of working with some great teams over his career, including assisting a US firm to develop a 30 MW gas fired cogeneration project at the US’s Yokosuka Navy base in Japan. The team did not need much help, but it was rewarding to contribute to a good solution to a complex engineering and construction challenge. Role: Project Development.

Possibly unique at this scale, Joe led the contract negotiations for the Engineering Procurement and Construction agreement for a 720 MW plant as well as the daily on-site management of that contract during the construction phase. The photo below is not great, but it shows Joe speaking at the ground breaking with AES’ CEO Dennis Bakke (partially obscured) looking like he is giving deep consideration to Joe’s remarks. Role: EPC Contract Management.
